Weird Baby Names

Weird baby names are all the rage, especially if you’re a celebrity or a super rich person trying to help your child stand out from the crowd. In that case, it seems, weird is good. But is it? How hard will it be for children to get along with a weird name to get them through?

Baby name experts say that naming your baby after the town where they were conceived (ala Posh Spice and David Beckham when they named one of their children Brooklyn), say it’s not only too much information for the rest of the world, but perhaps too much for the child as well.

Giving your baby a name that constantly requires spelling.. as in Maxxine or Zahara isn’t a good idea either. You’re just saddling your child with more work, spelling their name for friends, teachers and others. It might also make them the butt of teasing, but any unusual name will do that.

If you are determined to head into the weird baby names category, be sure to at least make sure the name won’t be associated with any unfortunate connotations. Chardonnay, for example, might give others the idea you and your partner were liquored up either when the baby was conceived or named. Apple and Moses? Well, those just conjure up too much that’s odd.
